Paul Damberg Update
A quick update on Paul Damberg. He is doing well.  The surgery to amputate above the knee was successful in getting rid of the infection.  The healing process has begun.  He will be in the hospital for some time.  Fortunately his house is handicap accessible so it will work out as he will be in a wheel chair.

Please continue to send positive thoughts his way, give him a call or send him a message.

Cash Raffle Countdown: One Week Left
Just about a week left before the big cash extravaganza, and we only have 85 tickets left to collect, so please turn those tickets in! We don't have any extra tickets available currently, so if you aren't sure if you are going to be able to sell your ticket please turn it in. A few members have asked for extra tickets if they become available. The fundraising committee appreciates your help in submitting your tickets early, as it will help save us a lot of time tracking down tickets.

A little reminder as well that all cash raffle tickets need to be turned in, regardless of whether they have been sold or not, by absolutely no later then June 22nd as they need to be present for the June 23rd raffle date.

Thank you everyone for the continued support!

Hermans Scholar: Tawny Plentyhorse
Get to know a Harbortown Hermans Scholar! Meet Tawny Plentyhorse, a graduate of Denfeld High School and planning to enter the fields of political and legal studies at Hamline University.

Tawny's entire family has contributed to her success and helping her achieve her goal of becoming a civil rights attorney and possibly a future US Senator or Representative! "Sadly my parents nor my grandparents went to college and my older brother who was going dropped out. I’m the first in my family who actually wants a college education and they are always pushing me to achieve all my goals and as my grandma says 'be a better person than the people that came before you'."

What personality trait that you have do you feel will help you be successful in your college career and why?
"I’m very observant as strange as that sounds. Growing up I wasn’t much of a talker and I wouldn’t say anything to anyone unless I absolutely has to. This allowed me to pick up on all the little things, I’d hear and see things I wasn’t necessarily supposed to. This allowed me and still does, to see things from a different perspective and to look at life differently. I always end up looking at the bigger picture and think about how every choice I make affects me and the people in my life and I think that’s a great quality to have going into college."

Congratulations Tawney and best of luck at Hamline in the fall!

Grandma's Marathon Volunteer Opportunity
For each hour worked – Grandma’s Marathon will provide our organization with a $7/per hour per person honorarium. If the all of the remaining time slots were taken the honorarium would be around $1,400.

Grandma's is in need of approximately 40 people to work from 4:30-10pm on Friday June 18th doing a variety of different tasks.  No real food service experience is necessary, however the DECC is asking those that sign up to attend a quick tutorial on Thursday, June 17 at the DECC – Lake Superior Ballroom @ 5:30pm.  All parking fees will be taken care of by the marathon. on Thursday as well as on Friday, June 19.

Besides the money to potentially be earned - each volunteer would receive:
  • Delicious Meal
  • Michelina’s All You Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner T-Shirt
  • Pair of Fitsoks
  • Race Wrap
  • (2) beverage tickets to use on Saturday, June 19 at Bayfront Park.
  • Invitation to the Volunteer Appreciation Party at Wade Stadium on Thursday, June 24 - where everyone will enjoy watching the Duluth Huskies take on Waterloo. This includes their ticket to the game, all you can eat meal and lots of fun! Upcoming Program Duties
If you have an upcoming program duty (please check the upcoming duty roster), please be sure to secure a speaker and provide notice to Rick Oase (rickoase@yahoo.com) or Stephanie Judd (sljudd@gmail.com) as soon as that speaker is confirmed. If you are unable to confirm a speaker, consider other program ideas like a Ted Talk, presenting yourself on a relevant topic or your business, or creating some excitement for a community organization you are passionate about. It is your program, so think about what is interesting and engaging to you and share it with others!

If for some reason you are unable to switch duties with another member or you have simply exhausted all efforts to find a speaker, please notify Rick or Stephanie no later than 3 business days before the meeting (the Friday before the meeting your program is scheduled).

The Holiday Inn has dedicated a laptop for weekly Harbortown use. All presenters need to bring is a USB drive with the PowerPoint presentation (or whatever is wanted to be shown on the projector while speaking). Please share this information with your program's presenter.

Because Harbortown is asked by the Holiday Inn for RSVPs each week, Rob will RSVP each weekly presenter to ensure the presenter gets breakfast. If the presenter is bringing a guest, please let Rob know so he can RSVP the guest, as well. Questions? Please contact Rob Haglin (rhanglin@awkuettl.com).

Thank you for your help and thank you to all who are working hard to find engaging content for our upcoming sessions!

October 27: Andres Gonzalez: Dave Uric, Twin Metals
November 3: Keith Kylmala, Rotary Foundation Day
