A Message from President Max Holm: COVID-19
As you all know by now there is a global pandemic happening with COVID-19 (The Coronavirus). Currently this Virus in the United States has affected 5,068 people with 85 deaths. Here in Minnesota we have 54 confirmed cases. Many organizations throughout the country have cancelled all events such as professional, semi-professional, collegiate, and youth sports. Concerts, and any event with 10 or more people. Locally K-12 Schools have been cancelled Starting Wednesday the 18th for a week and a half through Friday the 27th. All restaurants, bars, fitness centers are also closed.

Therefore, I have made the decision to cancel our weekly Wednesday morning meetings for the next 2 weeks to ensure that this pandemic hopefully passes. If you have a duty for either of the next 2 weeks you are off the hook, if you have a program scheduled please apologize to them for me and hopefully we can get them rescheduled in the near future.

With that being said, we as Rotarians are people of action and we can do something to help. Currently there are many kids who rely on meals provided by the public schools on a daily basis. Without that many of these kids could starve. I don't have the solution on how to help at this exact moment but if you have an idea please bring it forward and we will figure out a way to help in the best way possible.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and hopefully things will calm down in the near future. Please, if you have a cough or a cold please use extreme consideration and socially distance yourself from others to prevent the spread of any illness. Stay safe and healthy.

Rotary District Conference Cancelled
The health of District 5580 Rotarians is of utmost importance to us.  In light of the recent COVID-19 (Coronavirus) developments, we have decided to cancel the 2020 Rotary District Conference.

Madden's resort will begin issuing refunds today.  If your reservation was made by credit card, the refund will appear as a credit to the card.  Those who paid by check will have a check issued to them from the Madden's accounting office.  Notice of cancellation will be sent with the refunds.  You don't have to take any steps individually to cancel your reservations or request refunds from Madden's.

I will begin processing registration refunds this week as well.  You do not need to take any steps to cancel your registration or request refunds from me.

Subject: Coronavirus

Greetings Rotarians,

Yesterday evening the District 5580 Executive and Finance Committee met at my request to discuss the ongoing COVID-19 virus situation. Coronavirus will be around for a while and it had potential to affect attendees at our District Conference. Because of this I have decided to cancel District Conference. This is not an easy decision, but necessary to ensure the safety of the Rotarians in our district as well as the people in our communities. This is the same path that many other districts have also taken. Because there is a certain amount of business that needs to be addressed, the following meetings will take place via webinar: the Grants Spending Plan meeting, the Past Governors Council, P.E.T.S, the Annual Business Meeting, and the Executive and Finance Committee meeting. Look for times and dates to be posted soon.

When Coronavirus first showed up, I thought “what a pain in the rear”, but now I am looking at it as a challenge. The first three words that were spoken by R.I President Mark Maloney at International Assembly in 2019 were, CHANGE, ADAPT, NOW. Guess what? Here’s our chance to do just that. I will keep you informed with any new information that comes from Rotary International. In the meantime, please follow all the meeting guidelines set forth by the health professionals and help in your community wherever you can. Thanks for all you do. We will get through this!
