Hands-On Park Point Beach Cleanup!
(No Morning Meeting)
Join us this Wednesday afternoon at 4:30pm at the Park Point Beach House for our March hands-on! We meet in the parking lot and pick up trash along the beach and park from 4:30pm - 6:00pm. We will then head over to Canal Park Brewing for a well-deserved drink during our Club Social!

Dress for the weather! The City of Duluth will provide trash bags, gloves, trash pickers, etc., but feel free to bring your own, as well.

Tomorrow Night! Rotary Night at the Theatre!

Past District Governor Kay Biga has arranged for a wonderful opportunity for our Rotary Clubs!

The Thursday, March 14 performance of Next To Normal at the Duluth Playhouse will be designated as Rotary Night.  The entire Playhouse will be dedicated to Rotary members and our guests.  There are no tickets required for this evening event.  This is the night before the play opens to the public!

With RI President R. Gordon R. McInally calling for Rotary to create hope in the world by working for peace and mental wellbeing, this performance with its mental health theme is especially relevant to Rotarians.

Schedule:

  • The Next To Normal Rotary Night Event, Thursday, March 14, 2024
  • 6:00 p.m.  Doors Open with refreshments as a time to visit with each other.
  • 7:00 p.m.  Theatre Doors open guests can begin to take their seats.
  • 7:30 p.m. Start of Show  Next To Normal runs about 2 hrs in length, and there will be one 15 min intermission.
  • There will be refreshments along with a cash bar starting at 6 p.m. and continuing through the intermission..

Next to Normal

This Pulitzer prize-winning, contemporary musical invites audiences into the minds and hearts of the Goodmans, a suburban family struggling with the effects of mental illness. This brave and breathtaking story features an unforgettable rock score by Tom Kitt and original book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey. Named “one of the year’s ten best shows” by critics around the country, this truly authentic piece of musical theatre goes where few can with honesty and conviction.

What a great opportunity to socialize, meet and mingle with other Rotarians and enjoy an evening at the Playhouse!   Please share this information with your Club and include it in your newsletter.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

They're the missing link between farms and food banks: the volunteers who collect crops left behind in fields. Harvest Against Hunger takes it a step further. In this issue of Rotary magazine, we look at how the long-standing program of Rotary District 5030 in Greater Seattle serves as a model for addressing food insecurity, not by building new infrastructure but by forging so many connections between community partners that one farmer dubbed it "a benevolent octopus."

In another example of improving existing systems, polio vaccinators have a powerful new tool to fight outbreaks: cellphones that track their progress as they go door to door, ensuring fewer children are overlooked. In the Our World section, learn how polio mapping is going high tech.

March is Rotary Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Month. In the "Where are they now?" column, we introduce you to a Rotary scholar who has made it her life's work to expand access to safe water.

If you are unable to confirm a speaker, please contact Rick Oase (rickoase@yahoo.com) or Stephanie Judd (sljudd@gmail.com) for help, consider other program ideas like a Ted Talk, presenting yourself on a relevant topic or your business, or creating some excitement for a community organization you are passionate about. It is your program, so think about what is interesting and engaging to you and share it with others!

If for some reason you are unable to switch duties with another member or you have simply exhausted all efforts to find a speaker, please notify Rick or Stephanie no later than 3 business days before the meeting (the Friday before the meeting your program is scheduled).
