This Week: Community Service Project at Life House
In place of tomorrow morning's meeting, Harbortown Rotary will be getting hands-on again with Life House from 7:30-9:30 AM.

Life House has been reconnecting homeless & street youth to their dreams since 1991.

Life House provides for virtually every need of young people who have been left to fend for themselves on the streets. More importantly, however, Life House provides a place of acceptance, safety, and belonging where youth can reclaim a positive, healthy and hopeful future.

Life House needs our help with some cleaning and organizing and there will be coffee and muffins too!

There is still time to sign-up. Please email Jinell Abernathy at jinellabernathy@gmail.com.

KA Bike Fest Volunteers: What You Need to Know!
Team, as of today we are 47% full for volunteer positions for the KA Bike Duluth Festival. With being 50% full on Saturday and only 10% full on Sunday, we still need everyone's help to make this event happen! Saturday we could still use help with Youth Activities, Parking Attendants, Mid-Day Race Registration, and General Race Course help. Sunday we have a great deal of positions open and lots of availability in all areas.
Harbortown is a beneficiary with the goal of raising money to pass on to those we support.

Volunteer check in is in the lower Chalet on Grand Ave, main level of the Chalet (near the bar!) When you enter the doors the volunteer table will be easy to see, it is by the fireplace and Carl Maki or another assistant will be there all day to direct people where to go.  Maps will be provided if you are helping with a race or area located away from the Chalet.

Every volunteer will receive a drink ticket and there will be water there but it is a good idea to plan for food depending on how long you are staying. There will be food/drinks  available for purchase at the event.

Please follow the link and sign up for a time slot that works for you. It is a 3-day event and some of the volunteer spots are only a couple of hours. Feel free to invite others also, it would be a great way to introduce someone to Rotary in action.

Feel free to call Carl 218-481-4200 or email carl.maki@asdcosupply.us if you have questions.
Laguna Sulti Water Well Project Update
Karl Everett has been in contact with Segundo from Mano a Mano to provide a Laguna Sulti well update:

"The ell drilling equipment is operating.  Prior to arriving in Chirusi, the drill equipment completed the flushing of the previously drilled well in Punata.

Today, the photos show the drill has been leveled on site.  The staff and volunteers have two "fosas", small ponds, that are used to retain water. The second one retains the sludge that is coming out of the well being drilled.

Our engineer estimates that we will reach good water at about 80 meters deep, based on our experience at Tajamar and Laguna Carmen.  Assuming that we will not have any delays from equipment breakdown, the Chirusi well should be completed within two weeks.

Community residents of Chirusi are very excited that soon they will have water in their community thanks to the funding from Rotary and Mano a Mano.  Also, residents are very excited that they, for the first time in their lives, will be able to access water in their houses thanks to the piping installation that Mano a Mano will complete for each of 212 households of the community of Chirusi."

Upcoming Program Duties
If you have an upcoming program duty (please check the upcoming duty roster), please be sure to secure a speaker and provide notice to Rick Oase (rickoase@yahoo.com) or Stephanie Judd (sljudd@gmail.com) as soon as that speaker is confirmed. If you are unable to confirm a speaker, consider other program ideas like a Ted Talk, presenting yourself on a relevant topic or your business, or creating some excitement for a community organization you are passionate about. It is your program, so think about what is interesting and engaging to you and share it with others!

If for some reason you are unable to switch duties with another member or you have simply exhausted all efforts to find a speaker, please notify Rick or Stephanie no later than 3 business days before the meeting (the Friday before the meeting your program is scheduled).

The Holiday Inn has dedicated a laptop for weekly Harbortown use. All presenters need to bring is a USB drive with the PowerPoint presentation (or whatever is wanted to be shown on the projector while speaking). Please share this information with your program's presenter.

Because Harbortown is asked by the Holiday Inn for RSVPs each week, Rob will RSVP each weekly presenter to ensure the presenter gets breakfast. If the presenter is bringing a guest, please let Rob know so he can RSVP the guest, as well. Questions? Please contact Rob Haglin (rhanglin@awkuettl.com).

Thank you for your help and thank you to all who are working hard to find engaging content for our upcoming sessions!

Upcoming Program Duties:

October 27: Andres Gonzalez: Dave Uric, Twin Metals
November 3: Keith Kylmala, Rotary Foundation Day
November 10: Evening Fellowship Gathering
November 17: Tony Hansen
November 24: Bob Lindquist
