This Week's Program: Warm Fuzzies with Animal Allies
Year-round Animal Allies Humane Society strives to ensure a loving home for every pet.
Michelle Carter, Development Officer with Animal Allies will join us tomorrow morning (and possible a four-footed-fuzzy friend too) to share a bit about how Animal Allies has changed the face of pet adoption in the Northland and what they are striving to accomplish.
Animal Allies Humane Society was founded in the 1950s when a Duluth school teacher, Miriam Carlstedt. Animal Allies incorporated in 1957 and later gained 501c3 status in February, 1968.
The organization operated out of homes until the late 1990s when it then partnered with the City of Duluth Animal Services, sharing their facility and performing all adoption services for the city's homeless pets. Animal Allies ran a Capital Campaign through 2007 and 2008 to build a new, state-of-the-art shelter. The organization moved into our current location on Airport Road in 2009.
On behalf of the Harbortown Executive Committee, we would like to wish you all a warm and happy holiday season. Please remember there will be no morning meetings on December 25 or January 1. May you be surrounded by family, friends and loved ones to enjoy all that this season has to offer. Ring in the new year with a renewed passion for goodwill and service for the coming year in 2020.
Thank you to Tony Hansen for a wonderful holiday party at Ridgeview. The Sterling String performance was amazing, as always and we enjoyed good food and good friendship that evening.
Rotary Bolivia Trip March 12th - 24th+/-, 2021; Safe travel is paramount.
Enclosed is a flyer announcing the Bolivia Trip for this coming Fall, March 12th - 24th+/-, 2021, assuming Bolivian politics are stable for our visit. Safe travel is paramount. The approximate cost is $2,300 for travel expenses and we will limit the number of attendees to a dozen travelers. The available slots will be assigned on a first come, first served basis with preference given to Rotarians. There is a February 1st signup deadline and require anyone who wants to join the trip to provide me with a $250 check, made out to Mano a Mano Intl. for transportation costs associated with in - country travel, to reserve a spot. Many side trips are possible and will be determined by the groups preference. I personally recommend visiting the Bolivia capital of La Paz, and would like to see the Inca sites near Lake Titicaca at the end of the trip.

Come join us on an adventure visiting our Rotary International Projects in Bolivia. We are planning to travel to Bolivia to dedicate the Tocopilla Medical Clinic in the Amazon and visit water well and reservoir projects, medical clinics near Cochabamba Bolivia; and view future project opportunities with our Bolivian partners Mano a Mano International and Mano a Mano Bolivia. We have had great success assisting the communities with medical care and water resource projects in the past with our Rotary funded projects and have received wonderful receptions from the Bolivian people. Experience the people, culture, Amazon jungle, and the Cordillera Real Mountains with potential site trips including La Paz, Inca historic sites near Lake Titicaca, Machu Picchu, Uyuni salt flats, Toro Toro National Park, Cretaceous park in Sucre, Santa Cruz, and other historic, religious and cultural sites. If you are interested or would like more information, please email your contact information and let me know if you would like to attend.
