This Week's Program: Nathan Glockle, Educational Excellence With an Environmental Emphasis

Principal of Stowe Elementary, Nathan Glockle, will be sharing the results of their ongoing initiative in their school and their community.

For the last 5 years, Stowe Elementary has seen a revitalization in the communities of Gary New Duluth/Morgan Park. With the help of the YMCA, the Gary New Duluth Recreation Center, and the city of Duluth, they have worked together to increase community engagement.

This presentation will explore the impact engaged partners have had on the Stowe community, as well as what Stowe Elementary is doing to differentiate themselves from area schools to attract families to enroll.

Cash Raffle Tickets are on Sale!
It's time to Spring into action and do some selling! The Harbortown Rotary 2021 Cash Raffle has officially begun!! With the increased number of tickets and prizes this year, we are asking members to sell a minimum of 4 tickets each. However, to sell all of our tickets we need to average selling 7.5 tickets per member, so get creative and have some fun selling these tickets!

Your envelope with tickets will be available for in person pickup at all our in-person Wednesday club meetings at the Holiday Inn. Otherwise you can swing by and visit Goldy behind the US Bank on Michigan Street or at the Kolquist, Seitz & Goldman offices located on the 9th floor of the US Bank Building at 130 West Superior Street.

For ticket pick up contact Greg in advance 218-340-1688 or 218-336-1523, and don’t be shy to ask for more than 4 tickets!

A recent email was sent with some awesome templates to assist you with your sales efforts; including:
Feel free to use the templates, or let your creative juices flow and make the sales pitch your own! Our goal is to have every ticket sold and turned in with all cash by June 15th, 2021. Please coordinate with your team captain, Tony Hansen or Greg Goldman if you need more tickets. Captains will be asked to check in occasionally to help encourage their team’s sales efforts, assist in collecting ticket stubs and redistributing tickets if members need more.

Thank you all for your help, and I am excited to see the club come together to make this the biggest and best cash raffle fundraiser yet!
Boys & Girls Club Service Project Recap
Almost a dozen Rotarians along with several families members joined forces and provided some much-needed support to the Lincoln Park branch of the Boys & Girls Club. Everyone chipped in to help with building shelves for food and snacks, deep cleaning the gym and art supply area, organized some rooms and decorations and broke down a lot of cardboard. Thank you to all who participated in brightening the day of the students and staff at B&GC!

"As Rotary members, we can become stewards of environmental sustainability and adopt the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in our daily lives at home and in our clubs," Says Holger Knaack, President of Rotary International. "Then we can incorporate them into our Rotary projects."

Upcoming Program Duties
During these challenging times during COVID, it has become an even greater challenge securing weekly program presenters. But this time also affords the opportunity of the ease of a Zoom presentation versus which can be a bonus for a busy presenter.

If you have an upcoming program duty (or if you are unsure, please check the upcoming duty roster) please be sure to secure a speaker and provide notice to Don O'Connor (Don@duluthbx.com) as soon as that speaker is confirmed. If you are unable to confirm a speaker who can present virtually, you could look at options for a Ted Talk, consider presenting yourself on a relevant topic or your business, or create some excitement for a community youth organization you are passionate about. It is your program, so think about what is interesting and engaging to you and share it with others!

Even during our virtual meetings, we want to present engaging content and make the meetings meaningful for those that are attending the weekly sessions. We've hosted several prospective members and we want to keep them coming back with great content.

If for some reason you are unable to switch duties with another member or you have simply exhausted all efforts to find a speaker, please notify Don no later than 3 business days before the meeting (the Friday before the meeting your program is scheduled) whenever possible.

Thank you for your help with this and thank you to all who are working hard to find engaging content for our upcoming sessions!

Upcoming Program Duties:

June 16: Fred Rouse
June 23: President's Dinner: Ridgeview Country Club
June 30: TBD
July 7: Stephanie Irwin
July 14: Dave Kohlhaas
