This Week's Program: Adam from Wild State Cider
Joining us virtually tomorrow is the co-owner and founder of Wild State Cider, Adam Ruhland.

Adam is a former camp director and special education teacher (thank you teachers!) turned entrepreneur and cider enthusiast. He was introduced to cider in the Green Mountains of Vermont and has spent years developing Wild State.

Adam enjoys exploring Duluth's wild sides by bike, ski, or foot.

Wild State celebrates and protects what is wild. As members of 1% For The Planet, Wild State has committed 1% of sales to environmental nonprofits dedicated to protecting and improving outdoor access.

Presenter Needs at Holiday Inn
Rob Haglin received questions about what weekly program presenters need to bring. Historically, each presenter would bring their own laptop, but the Holiday Inn has now dedicated a laptop for weekly Harbortown use.

This laptop is setup with Zoom, the Owl, and the projector, so presenters do not need to bring a laptop or projector. All that is needed from presenters is a USB drive with the PowerPoint presentation (or whatever is wanted to be shown on the projector while speaking). The USB will put the presentation on the Holiday Inn laptop. Once the presentation is over, the presentation file is deleted off the laptop. Please share this information with your program's presenter.

Because Harbortown is asked by the Holiday Inn for RSVPs each week, Rob will RSVP each weekly presenter to ensure the presenter gets breakfast. If the presenter is bringing a guest, please let Rob know so he can RSVP the guest, as well.

Questions? Please contact Rob Haglin (rhanglin@awkuettl.com).

Helping Haiti
As many of you know Haiti experienced a 7.2 magnitude earthquake and thus far over 700 people have died. The country is still recovering from the 2010 earthquake that left over 230,000 people dead and over half a million homeless.  Haiti is going to need our help and shelterbox is already assessing the situation. Let's all start thinking about what we can do as a club and as individuals to help Haiti.

REMINDER: Dragon Boat 2022 Survey
REMINDER: You received a Google survey from my personal Gmail account.  If you did not see it come through, make sure to check your spam/junk folder.

Preliminary indications are that Club 25 is enthusiastic about taking on a partnership role in the festival.   Superior Sunrise Rotary is no longer a festival partner.

The Harbortown Rotary Board of Directors feels that our club membership needs to review our club’s role in the festival, given that our club has committed to a major role in the Bike Fest for five years.

A survey has been sent to each club member asking the following question: Are you willing to donate volunteer hours to both the Bike Fest and the Dragon Boat Fest in 2022?   There will be only a choice of yes or no.

Please be sure to vote by Friday, August 27th.
August Rotary Magazine

The new Rotary International President has announced a significant goal for the coming year: to increase Rotary membership to 1.3 million by July 2022, and the call to action is simple: Each One, Bring One.

"As we make membership a priority this year, let us focus on diversity by reaching out to younger people and especially to women. Every club should celebrate its new members, and every Rotarian who sponsors a member will be personally recognized by me. And those who are successful in bringing in 25 or more members will be part of our new Membership Society," says Shekhar Mehta.

Each month Rotary magazine asks Rotarians to respond to a new monthly What Would you Do? question. Email magazine@rotary.org to answer this month's question and perhaps see your response in writing in the September issue!

A prominent business leader recently joined your Rotary club. They run a global business and their customers are primarily Rotarians. Your club’s leadership team decides to pay this new member’s way to the next Rotary International Convention; they think the experience will inspire the new member to get more involved in club activities. The member mentions that they plan to man a booth promoting their business in the House of Friendship during the entire convention and probably will not have time to attend sessions.

What would you do?

Upcoming Program Duties
If you have an upcoming program duty (please check the upcoming duty roster), please be sure to secure a speaker and provide notice to Rick Oase (rickoase@yahoo.com) or Stephanie Judd (sljudd@gmail.com) as soon as that speaker is confirmed. If you are unable to confirm a speaker, consider other program ideas like a Ted Talk, presenting yourself on a relevant topic or your business, or creating some excitement for a community organization you are passionate about. It is your program, so think about what is interesting and engaging to you and share it with others!

If for some reason you are unable to switch duties with another member or you have simply exhausted all efforts to find a speaker, please notify Rick or Stephanie no later than 3 business days before the meeting (the Friday before the meeting your program is scheduled).
