This Week's Program: Bob & Diane Hansen and the Great American Loop Adventure
Tomorrow our own Bob Hansen will share the details of a 'journey of a lifetime.' Don't miss it!
Bob and his wife Diane will be setting sail later this year to travel the Great American Loop on their 61' vessel which they named the Soulmate. The trip could take many years and many thousands of miles and with no schedule or final destination identified, the Hansens are certainly ready for the adventure of a lifetime.
Bob and Diane will share details about the loop, their vessel and their preparations. Bob has been boating for a total of 45 years and he and Diane boating together for 28 years.
"We have a tentative plan but weather, the amazing communities we will encounter and the people we meet, could change our schedule at any time."
Bob is greatly looking forward to a side-trip to the Bahamas and will winter the boat the in the Florida Keys area in January and February.
Bob will be blogging along the entire journey and you can follow Bob and Diane on their Facebook group or their MV-Soulmate website below.
Over 20 Rotarians, family and friends spent a scorching day on Saturday, June 5th at the annual YMCA Camp Miller service project.
The work was hard but the fellowship and accomplishments made it all worth it. The group spent the day building and staining a brand new deck, painting and roofing the Chuck Wagon and painting cabins and picnic tables.
Derek Thompson of Silver Bay and graduate of William Kelley High School was one of six recently awarded Robert Hermans Academic Scholarships. Get to know Derek a little better below!
"I've been admitted to UMD to major in Engineering Physics. I don't really have any dream career in particular, but as long as I am building things and solving problems, I will be happy. A personality trait that I have that will help me out in life is that I am very persistent. Whenever I start a job, it takes a lot of effort to pull me away from it. I always finish what I start, and I finish it well."
"As for the thing that has influenced me the most, I would have to say my dad. Anybody that knows both of us would agree that I am basically a carbon copy of him. We are both natural problem solvers and are oftentimes really stubborn once our minds are set on doing something. He has taught me the majority of what I know and is an amazing role model."
Best of luck at UMD Derek and on behalf of the Robert Hermans Scholarship committee and the Harbortown Rotary Club, congratulations!

If you have an upcoming program duty (please check the upcoming duty roster), please be sure to secure a speaker and provide notice to Rick Oase (rickoase@yahoo.com) or Stephanie Judd (sljudd@gmail.com) as soon as that speaker is confirmed. If you are unable to confirm a speaker, consider other program ideas like a Ted Talk, presenting yourself on a relevant topic or your business, or creating some excitement for a community organization you are passionate about. It is your program, so think about what is interesting and engaging to you and share it with others!
If for some reason you are unable to switch duties with another member or you have simply exhausted all efforts to find a speaker, please notify Rick or Stephanie no later than 3 business days before the meeting (the Friday before the meeting your program is scheduled).
The Holiday Inn has dedicated a laptop for weekly Harbortown use. All presenters need to bring is a USB drive with the PowerPoint presentation (or whatever is wanted to be shown on the projector while speaking). Please share this information with your program's presenter.
Because Harbortown is asked by the Holiday Inn for RSVPs each week, Rob will RSVP each weekly presenter to ensure the presenter gets breakfast. If the presenter is bringing a guest, please let Rob know so he can RSVP the guest, as well. Questions? Please contact Rob Haglin (rhanglin@awkuettl.com).
Thank you for your help and thank you to all who are working hard to find engaging content for our upcoming sessions!
